Library Book Discussion Opened My Eyes!

(Lafayette, Louisiana)

My most memorable book club discussion was one that was held at my local library in Lafayette, Louisiana about the Lord of the Rings books.

I was in the library the day before the first discussion and the discussions were to be 4 evenings a week for 2 weeks. We were to read X chapters before each meeting (I forgot how many exactly) and then discuss the events and characters along with any foreshadowing.

The group was for people who never read the book as well as Lord of the Rings experts. I decided to go the following night as I had nothing better to do and wanted to see what it was about.

Well, that first session changed my thoughts of book discussion clubs. Yes I read the book and even tried to pay attention to the nit-picky little details in an effort to stump the fellow participants. Well, once I got there I found the discussions to be so much more than details.

Parallels were drawn between the book and real life in such detail that it made the book jump out to a whole new dimension for me that I had yet to experience in this or any other book to that point.

Needless to say the book had new meaning to me from that point on and I am so happy I went!

Note from Megan, editor of the Book Club Guide:

Thanks so much for sharing your story! That's exactly what book clubs are all about.

Hopefully it will be an inspiration to more people to get involved with the book discussion at their local libraries.
